Guide
How to install a .cube LUT.
Updated November 5, 2026
You downloaded a .cube LUT. Here is how to get it into each editor the reliable way: unzip first, point the app at the file (or install it into the LUT folder), then dial the strength. If a look looks wrong after it loads, check whether your footage is log or Rec.709.
Before you install
- Unzip the download. Editors will not read a .cube that is still inside a .zip.
- Confirm it is really a .cube. Open it in a plain-text editor; you should see a header such as
LUT_3D_SIZE 33and lines of three numbers. Other formats (.3dl, .look, .csp) are different files. - Know your footage. Creative looks for Rec.709 go on after any log conversion. See Log vs Rec.709.
- Keep a backup copy of the original .cube outside your project folder so a project cleanup does not delete it.
DaVinci Resolve
- On the Color page, select a node.
- Right-click the node → LUT and pick the file from a LUT folder, or copy the .cube into Resolve's LUT directory and refresh the list (on macOS that is often under Application Support for Blackmagic Design / DaVinci Resolve / LUT).
- Put creative looks on their own node so you can mute or reorder them.
- Blend strength with a parallel/layer node, or grade after the LUT node.
If the menu does not list the file, restart Resolve after copying into the LUT folder. Keep technical conversions separate from creative looks.
Premiere Pro
- Open Lumetri Color (Window → Lumetri Color).
- Expand Creative.
- In the Look menu choose Browse… and select the .cube file.
- Use Intensity for strength.
Input or conversion LUTs belong under Basic Correction → Input LUT, not under Creative. You can also drop .cube files into Premiere's Lumetri Looks folder and pick them from the Look menu after a restart.
Final Cut Pro
- Select the clip (or an adjustment layer).
- Add the Custom LUT effect from the Effects browser.
- In the inspector, choose the custom LUT option and select the .cube.
- Set strength with the effect's Mix slider.
Camera or conversion LUTs in clip Info are separate from creative Custom LUT effects. Do not stack a conversion twice.
CapCut (desktop)
- Select the clip on the timeline.
- Open color or adjustment controls and find LUTs or Custom LUT (wording varies by version).
- Import or browse to the .cube file.
- Adjust the intensity slider.
Mobile CapCut support for custom .cube files is limited compared with desktop. If Import is missing, use the desktop app or export a graded proxy.
Photoshop and Affinity Photo
- Open your still or frame grab.
- Add a Color Lookup adjustment layer (Photoshop: Layer → New Adjustment Layer → Color Lookup).
- Choose Load 3D LUT… and select the .cube.
- Lower the adjustment layer opacity for strength.
The same Filmsilk .cube can match video grades to thumbnails and stills when you keep intensity consistent.
Install errors and quick fixes
- File grayed out or rejected: still zipped, wrong extension, or unsupported size (try a 33-point version).
- Looks muddy or neon: creative LUT on log footage without conversion first, or conversion applied twice.
- Does not appear in the menu: wrong LUT folder, app needs a restart, or the path is a shortcut the app cannot read.
- Broken decimals: numbers must use a period (0.5), not a comma. See What is a .cube file?.
Preview before you commit

Where Filmsilk fits
Every Filmsilk look ships as a standard 3D .cube (33-point, with 65-point on demand) built for Rec.709. You can try every look on your own frame before you buy. The Collection is $29 one-time; Filmsilk Complete is $39 and adds Studio so you can adjust a look and export your own .cube.
Filmsilk
Looks ready to install.
