Guide

How to use a LUT in any editor.

Updated November 4, 2026

A LUT (look-up table) is a small file that remaps colors. A .cube file is the most common kind, and almost every editor can load one. Here's how to add a Filmsilk look in each app, and how to get the best result.

Before any look: start from normal (Rec.709) footage. If you shot in log (Apple Log, S-Log3, D-Log M, V-Log, C-Log), first apply your camera maker's conversion to Rec.709, then add the creative look after it. More on log vs Rec.709. Set white balance and exposure first, and start the look at 60–80% strength.

DaVinci Resolve

  1. On the Color page, right-click a node and choose LUT, then pick the file.
  2. To keep looks in Resolve's list: open Project Settings → Color Management → Open LUT Folder, copy the Filmsilk folder in, then click Update Lists.
  3. To lower the strength, reduce Key Output Gain on that node (in the Key palette).

Premiere Pro

  1. Open the Lumetri Color panel and expand Creative.
  2. In the Look menu choose Browse… and select the .cube file.
  3. Use Intensity to set the strength.

Final Cut Pro

  1. In the Effects browser, open Color and drag Custom LUT onto your clip.
  2. In the Inspector, open the LUT menu and choose Choose Custom LUT….
  3. Use the effect's Mix slider for strength.

CapCut (desktop)

  1. Select your clip and open Adjust → LUT.
  2. Click Import and choose the .cube file, then apply it.

Photoshop

  1. Choose Layer → New Adjustment Layer → Color Lookup.
  2. In 3DLUT File, choose Load 3D LUT… and pick the file.
  3. Lower the layer's opacity for strength.

Affinity Photo and other apps

In Affinity Photo, add a LUT adjustment and load the file. Any app that reads .cube 3D LUTs, including After Effects (Lumetri Color) and OBS, will work.

33-point or 65-point?

33-point files work everywhere and are what most editors expect. 65-point files are more precise and larger. Collection and Complete buyers can download either from their private page.

Try before you add
