How to apply a LUT in Filmora.
Updated November 5, 2026
On Wondershare Filmora (Windows or Mac), you load a .cube from the clip's Color panel or from Effects: open the LUT controls, choose Import (or Add Custom LUT), pick the unzipped file, then dial intensity or opacity. Menu names vary slightly by Filmora version; if you do not see LUT under Color, check Effects for a LUT category.
Before you start
- Use Filmora desktop, not the mobile app, for this workflow.
- Unzip the download so Filmora sees a real .cube file (not a .zip).
- If the footage is log, convert to Rec.709 first, or reserve a technical LUT only for that conversion. See Log vs Rec.709.
- Prefer 33-point cubes for everyday social and YouTube work; keep a 65-point copy if soft gradients matter.
Step 1: Import and select the clip
- Import your media into the Filmora project.
- Drag the clip onto the timeline and select it so the Color / Effects panels target that clip.
- If you are grading several clips the same way, apply the LUT on one clip first, confirm it, then copy or paste the color settings to the others.
Step 2: Open Color or Effects and find LUT
- With the clip selected, open the Color panel (or the Effects panel if your build keeps LUTs there).
- Find the LUT section, LUT category, or Custom LUT control.
- Click Import, Add, or the custom LUT browse control and choose the unzipped .cube.
- Confirm the viewer updates. If nothing changes, the file may still be zipped, have the wrong extension, or sit on a path Filmora cannot read. Format notes: What is a .cube file?
Step 3: Set intensity and order
- Use the LUT strength, intensity, or opacity control so mixed lighting and skin stay natural (often start around 60–80% and nudge from there).
- Keep exposure and white balance sensible before the creative LUT; do not stack two creative looks.
- If you needed a log conversion, keep that separate from the creative Filmsilk look.
- Toggle the LUT off to A/B a bright exterior, a dark interior, and a face close-up before you export.
Role of each tool: LUT vs color grade.
Step 4: Export a short test
- Export a few seconds at your delivery resolution and check on a second screen if you have one.
- Watch for crushed blacks, neon skin, and titles or graphics that pick up the look too hard; pull intensity back before fighting with secondaries.
- Save the project so the imported LUT stays with the sequence.

FAQ
Does Filmora support .cube LUTs?
Yes. Current Filmora desktop builds import custom .cube LUTs from the Color panel (LUT section) or from Effects when a LUT category or custom LUT import is available. Exact menu labels shift slightly by version; look for Color, LUT, or Effects → LUT.
Filmora desktop vs mobile?
This guide is for Filmora on Windows or Mac. Mobile Filmora has a smaller Adjust / Effects surface and may not import arbitrary .cube files the same way.
Should I apply a creative LUT on log footage?
No. Convert log to Rec.709 first (or use a technical conversion LUT only for that step), then apply a creative Rec.709 look. Filmsilk looks expect Rec.709 input.
Why does nothing change after I import?
The file may still be inside a .zip, may not end in .cube, or may sit on a path Filmora cannot read. Unzip, confirm the extension, re-import, and toggle intensity off and on.
